Why then the majority of men deny such love and compassion and oppress women that much? The answer is also within the verse: They are just not a people who reflect.
When the Quran came to Arabia, that part of the world was miserably disgusting in the women’s rights department, just like about anywhere else in the world. The Quran was a savior, literally, to the women in the world. The ideas and laws it set out more than 14 centuries ago is very important part of today’s most fierce feminists. The woman in Islam got the right to inheritance, marriage and divorce, to be a witness, to own and run her business, to buy properties, to be her own, et cetera. Rights non-Muslim women did not even know existed!
To this day, the majority of women in the world do not have full rights. While in Islam, a woman had her full rights for 14 centuries. Of course, even Muslim women did not escape the weakening of men. In Islam, there are sects who oppress women just like others. That is very sad for a people whom God chose to lead a righteous life. Women are everything in the World. Truly, without a woman, there would be no man at all. When God created Adam, according to the Bible, God had to create a partner for Him in order to continue. If God did not create that partner, Adam would be no more. But because of the woman, Adam continued to be. Why then is such a very important creature mistreated throughout history? Simple: Ungratefulness is a trait of most men. A verse in the Quran talks about the exquisiteness of mating:
And one of His signs is that He created mates for you among yourselves that you may find rest in them, and He put between you love and compassion; most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect. The Romans, 30:21
